← BackScottish born artist, Chris Kazeil, immigrated to the wilds of Alberta at the age of nine. Early in life she recognized the love she had of color and in particular its relation to art and good design. This led her to attend the University of Regina where she studied pottery and stained glass arts. After spending many years on the prairies raising her family, Chris settled on Vancouver Island in early 1996.
After a significant life event Chris sought solace in a creative outlet. Thus began her wonderful journey into abstract art.
Chris is a multiple award winning active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and has been published in International Artists Magazine issue #86 Finalist Abstract/Experimental Challenge in 2012.
In November of 2015 Chris was asked to write an article for International Artists Magazine regarding her process and the importance of colour in her work.
Issue #108 April/May 2016 contains her six page article featuring seven of her works.
She was elected by a jury of artists into the Society of Canadian Artists in October of 2012 and is now entitled to use the designation SCA .
Chris is a respected juror who has juried the prestigious Filberg Festival for the past three years and has recently completed a national jury of new applicants to the Society of Canadian Artists.
In the spring of 2015 the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria Art Sales and Rental Program began representing her work.
From September 4th to October 31st, 2017 Chris and three other local abstract artists will be featured in a show in the gorgeous Massey Gallery at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria.
Artists Statement:
"I find inspiration in the colours that surround me. I love to wear colour and I have colour in my home. I live on the ever glorious Vancouver Island where we are surrounded by colour year round.
Shapes and textures such as the intricate patterns and shapes of a wrought iron gate intrigue me, as does the light and colours of the west coast sunset on the Georgia Strait.
I strive to create balance and harmony with my colours and placements of "events", I invite the viewer to walk around or explore the painting. I don't try to give all the answers."
